Troubleshooting

The things that actually go wrong, and what to do about each of them.

  • I can't sign in.

Work through these in order — the first one solves most cases.

    1. If it says "Invalid email or password": you may have no password at all. Roughly half of Storgy accounts were made with Google or a sign-in link. Use "Continue with Google" or "Email me a sign-in link" instead.
    2. If it says your email isn't verified: click "Email me a sign-in link". That signs you in and verifies the account in one step.
    3. If you're sure of the password, reset it at /reset-password/. That works even on an account that never had one — it sets your first.
    4. If you deleted your account in the last fourteen days, sign-in is blocked for the whole grace period. Email us before the deletion date to reverse it.

Still stuck? Email hello@storgy.com from the address you're trying to sign in with.

  • A Storgy email never arrived.

Everything we send comes from hello@storgy.com. Search your inbox and spam folder for that address first — school and workplace filters are the usual cause.

For a sign-in link or a password reset, wait a minute and submit the form again to send a fresh one. A sign-in link lasts 15 minutes and a password reset an hour, so an old email may simply have expired: always click the newest one.

The signup verification email is the one that can't be re-sent. Use "Email me a sign-in link" instead — it verifies the account and signs you in together.

If nothing arrives at all, email us and we'll verify the account by hand.

  • A tool says I've hit a limit.

The message tells you which of four limits you met.

    • "You've used this month's credits" — your allowance is spent. It refreshes on your billing date, shown on the same screen.
    • "You've used your free credits" — the free runs are one-time, not daily. A plan or a referral credit is the way on.
    • "You're going fast" — more than ten runs from your network in five minutes. Wait a few minutes; nothing is lost.
    • "Too many runs from your network today" — a shared connection at a school, office, or café has used the day's free allowance between you. Paid plans skip this limit entirely.
    • "Storgy is at capacity" — a temporary site-wide cap on AI work, not a problem with your account.

If a run failed with an error rather than a limit, you weren't charged — the message says so explicitly.

  • A poem page shows only a few lines.

That's the copyright gate, not a bug. Some poems are public domain in the United States but still in copyright in the UK and EU, so readers outside the US get an excerpt plus the full analysis.

For a poem still in copyright everywhere, we publish the analysis and a link to the publisher's edition instead. Either way, you can paste your own copy into the Poem Analyzer and get a full reading of it.

  • My payment failed, or I was charged unexpectedly.

    • Declined at checkout — usually the bank's authentication step. Try again, or use a different card. We never see the reason your bank gave.
    • Charged after cancelling — check the date: cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for, so one final charge before that date is normal, but one after it is not. Send us the date and we'll look.
    • A renewal you didn't expect — yearly plans get a warning email 30 days ahead. If it's within 30 days of the charge, you're inside the refund window.
    • Charged twice — send both dates and we'll refund the duplicate in full.

For any of these, email hello@storgy.com from your account address. A person answers, and billing gets priority.

  • I paid but my plan hasn't updated.

Payment confirmations reach us within a few seconds normally. If your plan still looks wrong after a minute, sign out and back in — plan state is read at sign-in.

If it's still wrong, email hello@storgy.com with the date and the last four digits of the card. We can see the payment and fix the account by hand, and there are automatic reconciliation runs that catch stragglers too.

You will never lose credits to this. A plan applied late is applied in full.

  • I think I lost work at the Writing Desk.

Before anything else: check the Revisions tab on the piece. The Desk snapshots your text before every AI run, and any version can be restored.

Then check the filters on /desk/ — a piece that's been set aside moves to its own view rather than the main list, and searching hides the Continue card.

Deleting a piece is immediate and permanent, and takes its versions with it. If that's what happened, email us with the title and roughly when — we can sometimes recover it from a backup, but no promises.

  • A page won't load or looks broken.

    1. Reload with a hard refresh (Cmd+Shift+R, or Ctrl+F5 on Windows).
    2. Try a private window — a stale cached file is the usual cause, and a private window bypasses it.
    3. Disable extensions for the page. Aggressive blockers sometimes strip files the editor needs.
    4. Try another browser to work out whether it's the site or the setup.

Still broken? Email hello@storgy.com with the URL, your browser, and a screenshot if you can. That's usually enough to reproduce it.

  • The AI gave me a wrong or unhelpful answer.

Send us the result URL at hello@storgy.com. The URL tells us exactly which prompt and which text produced it, which is what we need to fix the underlying instruction rather than the one result.

If a run failed outright with an error, you weren't charged for it, and re-running usually works — the most common causes are transient.

Analyses are a second opinion, not a verdict. Where the machine and your reading disagree about a poem, your reading is the one that goes in the essay.
