Account & sign-in

Signing up, signing in, magic links, handles, and deleting your account.

  • How do I create an account?

    Three ways, all from /signup/:

    • Email and password — you also pick a handle (3–20 characters, lowercase) and an optional display name.
    • Continue with Google.
    • Email me a sign-in link — a passwordless account.

If you sign up with a password, you must verify your email before you can sign in. We send a link with the subject "Verify your Storgy account"; clicking it activates the account, signs you in, and releases your free credit.

Signing up with Google skips the handle field, so we generate a placeholder and ask you to pick a real one on the next screen.

  • It says "Invalid email or password", but I never set a password.

This is the single most common sign-in problem, and it usually is not a wrong password. Close to half of all Storgy accounts have no password at all, because they were created with Google or with a sign-in link. The password form cannot tell you that directly — it answers every failed attempt identically on purpose, so nobody can use it to discover whether an address is registered.

Two fixes, both below the divider on the sign-in page:

    1. Click "Continue with Google" if that is how you joined.
    2. Or click "Email me a sign-in link" and use the emailed link.

If you would rather have a password from now on, go to /reset-password/ and request a reset link. That works even on an account that has never had a password — completing it sets your first one.

  • I didn't get the email. What now?

All Storgy mail comes from hello@storgy.com. Search your inbox and spam folder for one of these subjects:

    • "Verify your Storgy account" — after signing up with a password.
    • "Sign in to Storgy" — a sign-in link.
    • "Reset your Storgy password" — a password reset.

For a sign-in link or a password reset, wait a minute, then submit the same form again — retyping your email and clicking the button sends a fresh one. Sign-in links last 15 minutes, password resets an hour, and verification links a day, so if you are coming back to an old email, request a new one rather than clicking it.

The verification email is the exception: it cannot be re-sent, and signing up again with the same address just says the account already exists. Use "Email me a sign-in link" instead — it signs you in and verifies the account in one step.

School and workplace filters are the usual culprit. If nothing arrives at all, email hello@storgy.com from the address you're trying to use and we'll sort it by hand.

  • Can I sign in with Google?

Yes — "Continue with Google" on either the sign-in or sign-up page.

If you already have a Storgy account with the same email address, signing in with Google attaches to it rather than creating a duplicate. Your existing work stays where it is.

A Google account has no Storgy password, so /settings/ shows "You signed in with Google, so there's no password to change." You can still give yourself one via /reset-password/ if you want a second way in.

  • I forgot my password, or want to change it.

Forgot it: use the "Forgot?" link beside the password field, or go to /reset-password/. We always show the same confirmation whether or not the address is registered, so the form can't be used to probe for accounts. The reset link lasts one hour and works once.

Changing it while signed in: /settings/ → Password. You need your current password plus a new one of at least eight characters.

  • How do I change the email address on my account?

You can't do it yourself yet — /settings/ shows your address read-only. Email hello@storgy.com from the current address and we'll change it by hand.

  • How do I change my display name or bio?

/settings/ → Display name & bio. The name holds up to 100 characters and the bio up to 300. Both can be left blank. Saving updates your public profile immediately.

Your display name is the title of your public profile page. Leave it empty and the profile falls back to @your-handle.

  • Can I change my handle?

Yes, once a year. /settings/ → Handle. Rules: 3–20 characters, lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, no hyphen at either end and never two in a row. Around fifty words are reserved and cannot be taken.

After a change your old handle is parked for 90 days so existing links don't rot, and nobody else can claim it in the meantime. While you're inside the yearly lock the form tells you the exact date you can change again.

  • Is my profile public? Who can see my saved work?

Every account has a page at storgy.com/u/your-handle — but it starts empty and stays that way until you choose otherwise.

    • Saved tool runs are private by default. Each one on /me/ carries a "Share on profile" checkbox; only the ones you tick appear publicly.
    • Your profile stays hidden from search engines until you've shared at least one item.
    • Writing Desk drafts never appear on your profile. The only way to show someone a draft is a share link you create yourself.
    • Notebook collections have their own separate public/private setting.

  • How long do I stay signed in?

Seven days per sign-in. Log out from the account menu in the header — the last item is "Log out".

Deleting your account or changing your password ends every active session immediately.

  • Can I download everything Storgy holds about me?

Yes. /settings/ → Your data → "Download my data (JSON)". You get your account fields — id, email, handle, name, bio, plan, and creation date — plus every saved tool run, as a single JSON file.

One export per hour. Ask again inside the hour and it tells you to try later.

The export covers your account and saved tool runs. For anything it doesn't include — Writing Desk drafts, for instance, which you can export yourself as DOCX or PDF — email hello@storgy.com and we'll assemble it by hand.

  • How do I delete my account, and what happens to my work?

    1. Go to /settings/ → Danger zone → "Delete my account".
    2. Type DELETE in the confirmation field.
    3. Press "Delete my account".

Your account enters a deletion-pending state straight away: every session is revoked and you cannot sign in again by any method. We email you to confirm, naming the date the deletion completes.

Fourteen days later your account, sessions, and all saved tool runs are permanently deleted, and we email you once more. Editorial content — poems, poets, themes — is unaffected.

There is no self-serve undo. If you change your mind inside those fourteen days, email hello@storgy.com before the deletion date and we can reverse it. After that date it cannot be undone.

Two things to do first: download your data from /settings/, and cancel your subscription if you have one. Deleting an account does not cancel billing.

  • I can't sign in and I never deleted my account.

Storgy never deletes an account because of a plan change, a failed payment, or inactivity. Only two things remove one: your own deletion request, fourteen days after you make it, and an automated sweep of signup-form spam.

The spam sweep only touches accounts that have never verified an email, have never paid, have no bio, and carry a machine-generated name — the long random mixed-case strings bots submit. A real signup with a human name is never caught by it.

The likeliest explanation is a never-verified signup: the password form refuses to let you in until the email is verified. Click "Email me a sign-in link" — that signs you in and verifies the account at the same time.

If none of this fits, email hello@storgy.com from the address you signed up with.
