Plans & billing
Prices, upgrades, invoices, cancellation, and how refunds are calculated.
What plans are there and what do they cost?
A free plan and three paid ones. Paid plans differ by how many credits you get each month — one credit is one AI run.
- Free — $0, no card. Reading, the deterministic tools, and a one-time AI credit.
- Starter — 100 credits a month. $9/month billed yearly ($108), or $18 billed monthly.
- Plus — 500 credits a month. $29/month billed yearly ($348), or $58 billed monthly.
- Pro — 1,000 credits a month. $49/month billed yearly ($588), or $98 billed monthly.
Yearly is exactly half the monthly rate. All prices are in US dollars.

What's the difference between Starter, Plus and Pro?
Two things, and only two. Everything else — every tool, every Desk feature, every export — is identical across the three.
- Monthly credits: 100, 500, or 1,000. Roughly 3, 16, or 33 AI runs a day.
- How far back your Writing Desk version history reaches: 30 days on Starter, one year on Plus, unlimited on Pro. (Free accounts get 7 days.)
Versions outside your window are never deleted — they're shown as a locked count, and upgrading brings them straight back.

Who takes my payment, and what appears on my statement?
New subscriptions are sold through Stripe. The seller of record is iBuild.io LLC, trading as Storgy, and your statement shows STORGY.COM.
A small group of subscribers who joined before we moved to Stripe are still billed by Paddle, whose name appears on their statement instead. Nothing about their subscription changes, and it keeps renewing on the same terms.
Card details never touch Storgy's servers on either provider.

What payment methods do you accept?
Card, through Stripe's hosted checkout. Stripe handles the payment and any strong-customer-authentication step your bank requires. Depending on your country, Stripe may also offer local payment methods on the checkout page.
For a school purchase order or an invoice arrangement, email hello@storgy.com.

Is VAT or sales tax included?
Listed prices are before tax. Any VAT or sales tax required where you are is calculated at checkout and added on top — the checkout page shows the full total before you pay. Where we hold no tax registration covering your location, that line is zero.
Legacy Paddle-billed subscriptions work the other way round: their prices were tax-inclusive, and they stay that way.
How do I upgrade or downgrade?
Go to /billing/plan/, pick the tier and billing period you want, and a confirmation screen shows the exact amount before anything is charged.
- Upgrades start today. The unused part of what you've already paid is credited against the new plan, so you pay only the difference.
- Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the period you've already paid for. Nothing is charged and nothing changes before then.
- A scheduled change can be cancelled from the same page any time before it takes effect.
Every figure on that screen comes from Stripe's own calculation, never from a list price. If Stripe can't produce one, the page shows an error rather than a number we'd have to guess at.
Upgrading mid-month tops your credits up by the difference rather than resetting them: spend 40 of 100 on Starter, move to Pro, and you land on 960.

Can I switch between monthly and yearly billing?
Yes, from /billing/plan/. Monthly to yearly takes effect today — your credits are the same either way, so there's nothing to lose by acting now. Yearly to monthly is scheduled for the end of the year you've already paid for.

How do I cancel?
From your account, in two clicks: /billing/cancel/. No phone calls and no retention scripts. Stripe-billed subscribers are taken to the billing portal, where cancellation is one button.
Cancelling always ends the subscription at the end of the period you've already paid for — never immediately. You keep everything until that date, and the page tells you exactly when it is.

What happens after I cancel?
You keep paid access until the end of the period you paid for. There's no cancellation fee. After that the account drops to the free tier — it isn't deleted, and neither is anything in it.
What survives a cancellation:
- Every draft and project, with DOCX and PDF export still working — we will never hold your manuscript.
- Share links you already created keep working, and you can still revoke them and moderate comments.
- Version history beyond the free window is locked, not deleted, and returns if you resubscribe.
Changed your mind before the period ends? Stripe-billed subscribers can undo a pending cancellation from /billing/plan/ — same tier, same price, same billing date, nothing charged. Once the period actually closes, a fresh subscription is the only way back.

Can I get a refund, and how much?
Yes — within 30 days of any individual charge. The window runs from each charge, not from when you first signed up, so every monthly charge and every yearly renewal has its own.
The refund is usage-adjusted: we work out what you used two ways — the days you held the plan, and the credits you actually spent — and deduct whichever is greater. You get the rest back.
On Plus yearly ($348), cancelling on day 20 having spent 120 credits refunds $328.93. Cancelling on day 5 having spent 450 credits refunds $321.90 — the heavier usage costs more than the five days did.
If your usage already covers the whole charge, there's nothing left to refund. Charges older than 30 days have no refund path, yearly plans included.
Refunds go back to the original payment method, within five working days on our side, plus another three to ten for your card issuer.

How do I actually request a refund?
Email hello@storgy.com from the address on your Storgy account. We match it to your subscription, work the figure out using the formula above, and process it by hand — usually the same day, five working days at the outside. A person replies, not a form.
Write to the same address if a renewal caught you off guard, or to use a statutory withdrawal right such as the EU and UK 14-day right on a first purchase. That right applies whatever any policy page says.

Will you warn me before my subscription renews?
On yearly plans, yes — an email 30 days before the renewal charge, with the amount and a cancel link. The amount comes from the payment provider's own calculation, including tax; if we can't get a real figure we send nothing rather than quote you a wrong one.
Monthly plans get no advance warning, deliberately. A monthly plan renews every 30 days, so a 30-day notice would arrive the day after each charge.
Do you offer student, teacher or school pricing?
Not for new signups. The Student, Teacher Pro, and School tiers were retired in July 2026 — what's sold today is Starter, Plus, and Pro.
Anyone already on one of those plans keeps it, at their exact price, until they cancel. Nothing changes for them.
We replaced them with credit plans because "how many runs do I get" turned out to be the only question that mattered. If you're buying for a school and need something the published plans don't cover, email hello@storgy.com.
Do I get anything for referring someone?
Yes, as banked credits rather than discounts:
- 10 credits when someone you referred signs up free and runs their first tool — up to 20 rewarded signups.
- 100 credits if they subscribe monthly; 300 if they subscribe yearly.
Banked credits sit in their own balance, are spent only after your monthly plan credits run out, and are never wiped by the monthly refresh. Free accounts earn them too.
