What is a sonnet?
The sonnet is poetry's most disciplined form — 14 lines, iambic pentameter, a rhyme scheme that demands argument and turn.
Shakespeare didn't invent the form (Petrarch did, two centuries earlier) but he made it English, swapping the Italian octave-and-sestet for three quatrains and a couplet that pivots in the final two lines.
Tip: Read your generated sonnet aloud. If line 8 doesn't pivot — if there's no shift in argument, emotion, or imagery — the volta isn't doing its job.
