I woke up, rolled out of bed, and felt beautiful. I called the man I’d met online and told him that I really lived a lot closer than he thought.
“I’m wearing elevator shoes,” he said. “Because I’m tall in my soul.” Fine with me. When I looked in the mirror, I just had to blink. I’d woken up with goldfish lips, long blond hair down to my knees, and island blue peep-holes. I looked like a fuck-me doll. I stood there staring until I began to laugh.
What kind of joke is this? I said to myself in the mirror. Who asked for this, anyway?
I walked to the kitchen and started to sing. Birds flew in through the window and landed on my shoulders. I did a little dance kick and felt myself rising. I rose like Jesus right inside my living room. I hadn’t even gotten to the kitchen yet. What do saints like me eat? I asked myself. What does it take to fuel such a gorgeous machine? I thought about this for a while, then called your old number. It didn’t ring. I talked to you about this new self of mine. “Hi, I think you might want to love me again now,” I said.
