STORGY will be rounding up some hot off the press trailers for you all to get your viddies on – a nice splash of comedy, horror and sports this week! Tally Ho!
Synopsis: The film will be a prequel that will focus on the events that lead up to the very first Purge event.
STORGY Thoughts: I’ve always been a fan of The Purge movies – the first being an isolated thriller with a unique idea, and then opening up politically with its sequels, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year – it seems like other people think so too as it’s made enough money for this fourth installment. But do we really need to know the origins of how the idea of The Purge came about? It kind of debunks the whole mythos, like knowing the origins of any boogeyman film. Still, it’s a film that might strike a chord tonally with what’s happening in the world at the moment and the marketing team will have a field day getting the message out to people.
Synopsis: Phillip Goodman, professor of psychology, arch-skeptic, the one-man ‘belief buster’ – has his rationality tested to the hilt when he receives a letter apparently from beyond the grave. His mentor Charles Cameron, the ‘original’ TV parapsychologist went missing fifteen years before, presumed dead and yet now he writes to Goodman saying that the pair must meet. Cameron, it seems, is still very much alive. And he needs Goodman to find a rational explanation for three stories that have shaken Cameron to his core. As Goodman investigates, he meets three haunted people, each with a tale more frightening, uncanny and inexplicable than the last.
STORGY thoughts: If you ever had a chance to see Ghost Stories at the West End in London, then you’ll know that (hopefully) the film adaptation won’t be just jump scares. Three stories are interwoven within the professor’s investigation and if they manage to balance the right amount of eerieness and creeps, then you can count me in for this one. An extraordinary cast of British talent also helps.
Synopsis: JOHNNY ENGLISH STRIKES AGAIN is the third installment of the Johnny English comedy series, with Rowan Atkinson returning as the much loved accidental secret agent. The new adventure begins when a cyber-attack reveals the identity of all active undercover agents in Britain, leaving Johnny English as the secret service’s last hope. Called out of retirement, English dives head first into action with the mission to find the mastermind hacker. As a man with few skills and analogue methods, Johnny English must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make this mission a success.
STORGY Thoughts: Oh. Well. Hmm. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rowan Atkinson. Blackadder, Not the Nine O’Clock News, Mr. Bean, RatRace…the man is a legend. Unfortunately I never thought any of the Johnny English films were…particularly…funny. Watching the trailer just made me sigh. With a heavy heart.
Synopsis: IN SEARCH OF GREATNESS, produced in partnership with IMG Films, is a groundbreaking feature documentary revealing the true nature and nurture of the greatest athletes of all time. Through a series of intimate conversations and captivating footage, Polsky leads viewers on an entertaining, thrilling, and inspiring personal journey. Featuring original interviews with iconic athletes Wayne Gretzky, Pelé, and Jerry Rice, as well as renowned thought leaders Sir Ken Robinson and David Epstein, IN SEARCH OF GREATNESS resonates beyond the world of sport to realms of self-expression, attitude, and human nature.
STORGY Thoughts: I’m not a sports fan, but those wanting a new documentary and those wanting to find out what makes an athlete tick may want to check this one out…
Synopsis: Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.
STORGY Thoughts: Don your black hat and get ready to be sucked back into Crichton’s world where it seems the West won’t be the only landscape we’ll be delving into. Each episode will likely ask more questions than the last, and if your mind can keep up with it all, it’ll be a worthwhile venture back into series 2…
Synopsis: Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem.
STORGY Thoughts: Who’s betting that the computer chip will malfunction and start the rise of the machines? Any takers?
Synopsis: A group of troublemakers who are forced to attend night school in hopes that they’ll pass the GED exam to finish high school.
STORGY Thoughts: Maybe I’m just not into comedy this week. Or what comedy represents these days…Meh. People who like Kevin Hart will have another film with Kevin Hart in it, so there’s that. I guess? Meh.
