EPISODE 9:
Fat Roland
“I’m basically like a human pile of bin bags.”
It’s the penultimate episode of the series! To celebrate, Fat Roland met Daniel in Hackney the morning after Bad Language ran a literature stage for Mirrors Festival. He talked to Daniel about the true meaning of Christmas, the anxieties of a live literature promoter, winning the Saboteur Awards twice, and why Jarno Trulli’s chef is handing out cardboard cut outs of the racing driver in Manchester. He also read a story inspired by a prompt from last month’s guest. If you like his ramblings, you should also listen to his podcast, Hey Fat Roland.
When Fats is not appearing in anthologies such as Word Life and A Box Of Stars Underneath The Bed, he’s waggling cartoons of pandas at the likes of the Royal Exchange, Transition Festival and FC United. As the poster said for his second Edinburgh Fringe show in 2016: “Imagine Johnny Vegas devouring Sam Simmons… on a rollercoaster…. driven by a depressed buffalo.” True dat.
