EPISODE 4:
David Hartley
Episode four needs a short apology from Paperchain Podcast – as with Aliya Whiteley’s episode, we recorded this one over Skype, and the sound quality isn’t great. However, that doesn’t stop David Hartley from being an excellent guest. He talks writing for performance, exploding supermarkets, and collaborating with his brother on spoken word & music. Then he reads a brand new story from the prompt ‘that’s what she said.’
David Hartley is a short story writer and performer from Manchester. His latest collection Spiderseed (Sleepy House Press) was the Runner-up at the 2016 Saboteur Awards for the Best Short Story Collection category. He writes disturbing and unhinged stories about nature, myth, humanity and Derek Acorah’s ghost, among other things. He runs a spoken word event in Manchester called Speak Easy and can often be found haunting microphones with his oddball tales. You can seek him in the wastelands of Twitter on @DHartleyWriter
